Benjamin Franklin was a scientist, philosopher, and an enlightenment thinker. This is when he invented the bifocals, which were eyeglasses with an upper and lower half (this isn't an exact date). Benjamin Franklin also invented the lightning rod, the Franklin stove , and many other things. He was also an author of the Declaration of Independence.
