Holy Roman Emperor Charles V called Martin Luther to the Diet of Worms to take back what he said in his 95 theses. Martin Luther does not take it back and he continues to preach his ideas against indulgences. Charles V stripped Martin Luther of his protection under the law and he goes on the run.
The Diet of Worms gave Martin Luther a larger platform to preach his Protestant ideas. The Protestant Reformation progressed. It sweeped across all of Europe and fueled the Hundred Years' war. Eventually, Protestantism became one of the most practiced sects of Christianity.
