Francisco Pizarro was another conquistador, who conquered the Inca Empire using very similar means to Cortes. Unlike Cortes' conquest, however, the welcome from the Inca emperor was actually an attempt at a trap. This attempt failed, and the emperor Atahualpa was executed after an ambush by the Spaniards. Pizarro also used internal conflict within the empire to aid his conquest, and Cuzco fell to Spain, giving Spain access to its riches.
