In June of 1967 a landmark Supreme Court case reached a verdict. Richard loving who was white and Mildred Jeter who was black, were caught and charged with breaking Anti-miscegenation laws, specifically living together and engaging in intercourse. These laws prohibited interracial marriages and relationships, the Lovinges repealed their case and ended up in the supreme court. This is an example of how the united states has a working checks and balances system. In the end the supreme court ruled that to ban interracial relationships and marriage goes against the 14th amendment which grants all people equal protection under the law. This is an example of how the judicial branch checks the legislative branch. The checks and balances system not only protects unconstitutional laws from being made, but removes unconstitutional laws.
