In 2009 the WRC was hosted by Region IV in San Jose California. Attendance was significantly lower this year, around just two hundred and eighty two members were able to attend, a disappointment considering the wealth of travel benefits San Jose had to offer. In particular attendees from Region V appear to have been excessively low. This led to both regions deciding to focus on more collaboration between the hosting Region and the "Non-host" region in efforts to drive up attendance from the non-host region.It is possible that the looming National NASPA conference in Seattle and the financial crisis may have influenced Region V members to save their professional development funds for that upcoming event.
