After being discovered by authorities, Saroo is transferred to Liluah. It is overpopulated, a home for both troubled, lost, and injured children, functioning somewhat as both a school and hospital. Though at first grateful for the shelter and food, it's not long before Saroo starts to think of Liluah as more of an ominous prison.

He is soon transferred to an orphanage, which he finds to be a much more promising and welcoming place.
