Columbus sailed the Atlantic, from Spain, to explore India and he didn’t find it, he found America instead. He had 88 men with him and 3 different ships on the expedition. Columbus landed in the Caribbean so he did not find America’s mainland. He went on the expedition to find spices in India and gold. He also wanted to find a new route to India. The gold and spices were going to be given to the King and Queen of Spain at the time. He wanted to go to India to gain land and get rich in the spice trade. He did it for wealth. There was new land for Spain to explore and many of the other powerful countries. Trade was expanding and the Natives were being killed off slowly. They were killed of due to diseases and sickness that the Europeans brought from Europe.
