As the celebration of American triumph flowed throughout the nation, the Hartford Convention and the Federalists came to seem futile, irrelevant, and even treasonable. This failure regarding the secession effort served as a virtual death blow to the Federalist Party, effectively dissipating the minority left in the nation.
