The Stamp Act required all printed material to have a stamp purchased form authorities. Printed materials included newspapers, court documents, books, land deeds, almanacs, and commercial papers. The purpose of the Stamp Act was to finance the operations of empire and to pay for the cost of stationing British troops in N. America.
