- Whilst Zephaniah Mann and Barnabas Hale are discussing business plans, Bette Mann gives birth to three sons: Redmond, Blutarch and Gray. However she dies shortly after and Barnabas is the only one who cries.
- Zepheniah Mann is presented with Redmond and Blutarch but is disgusted at the sight of Gray who shows unnatural intelligence and can talk.
