Marcos was born in c.1495 Nice, France. He was picked to be in a expedition in 1539 with Estevanico. Claims he saw the legendary seven golden cities of cibola in what is now western New Mexico. He freed Indian slaves from region to the north and died March 25,1558. His partner Estevanico is a enslaved African he learned how to speak several Native American languages. He was killed in the expedition in 1539.
