Queen Victoria proclaimed that the Provinces of Canada were officially united to the Dominion of Canada. Meaning, three colonies of Canada -
New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and the former province of Canada - joined together under Confederation to form the Dominion of Canada. Sir John A. Macdonald was appointed the prime minister and a month later was elected and knighted by Queen Victoria for his role in forming the new dominion. Though they did Confederation initially, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were upset about the proclamation as they believed confederation was pushed on due to the two provinces lack of voting rights because of their size and population. In 1871, British Columbia joined Canada, with one of the terms being that a transcontinental railway was to be built. And in 1873, PEI joined to help boost the economy, they one of their terms was that a ferry system was to be built.
