This frontispiece to a medical manuscript shows Anicia Juliana, the receiver of the manuscript, in seated in an imperial or even Christ-like pose receiving a manuscript from a personification of the "gratitude for the arts." Anicia Juliana patronized many churches and maintained a heated rivalry with Emperor Justin throughout his reign.
