This act was an amendment to the Federal Food and Drug Cosmetic Act which was created in 1939. Both acts were put into place with the goal of keeping American made food safe, affordable, and nutritious. The act regulates GMOs in many ways, but one way is making sure foods that say they are "GMO-free" are actually what they claim.
