Title IX was originally created in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, but did not apply to educational institutions. Therefore, in relation to education it was introduced as a part of the Education Amendments of 1972, signed into law by Richard Nixon. Title IX prohibits discrimination based off of sex by any educational institution or program receiving federal aid.
