A reauthorization of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975 (EHA). Signed into law by George H.W. Bush, the IDEA gave students with disabilities the legal right to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). It also created the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), all to ensure the just treatment of individuals with disabilities.
