The Sioux were a tribe that fiercely resisted the white encroachment of the Great Plains. Some names of the most famous people in charge of the SIoux were Sitting Bull, Red Cloud. Some of the famous conflicts included the Sioux Wars (1854-1890), Red Cloud's War (1865-1868).
