The August Decree refers to when the National Assembly successfully abolished the rigid feudal system. This included destroying the priviliges that the upper classes originally held, such as the avoidance of taxes and the advantages they held in relation to promotion. One of the most important things it did was to decree that everyone was equal in the eyes of the law
