As a result of the Sardinian invasion of Parma, the Rome Alliance was signed between Modena, Tuscany, and the Two Sicilies. The Alliance stipulated that any aggressive actions made by Sardinia against any of the signatories would be seen as a declaration of war to all the signatories. The Papal States did not join, but declared that in the case of a Sardinian War, they would not join the side of Sardinia.
