In 1517, Pope Leo issued a special jubilee indulgence to finance the on going construction of Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome. Johann Tetzel was selling the indulgences with the phrases, " As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, a soul from Purgatory springs." Luther was very distressed at these sale of indulgences, believing that they would only guarantee one's damnation. Angered, Luther issued his 95 Thesis in which he expressed the corrupt practices of the Catholic Church (like indulences).Добавлено на ленту времени:
