Code Red Virus was a “fileless” worm that existed only in memory and made no attempt to infect files on the system. It replicated by taking advantage of a flaw in Microsoft IIS, allowing it to spread globally in just hours. Compromised machines were used to launch a DDoS attack on the Whitehouse.gov website.
