Why: | Wages: black death cut labor force → peasants demanded higher wages → nobles countered w/ Statute of Laborers 1351 [froze wages + further bound peasants to manors] | Taxes: reimposition of taxes to pay for 100yrs war, collected by force by sheriffs | Rxn: 1000s of artisans + poor city/rural ppl in southern England attacked tax collectors, sacked castles/manors, destroyed manorial records, murdered nobles | Shutdown: Boy-King Richard II pretended to appease peasants → crushed them violently; tried to push back to rural serfdom, but money rents continued gaining way, and serfdom was out of England by 1550
