The Mars jumpgate is sent to Alpha Centauri, scheduled for arrival in approximately 78 years. This relatively short transit time canbe achieved only because the transport ship will not need to carry its own fuel: instead, fuel is supplied through the gate itself. Jump tests are undertaken while the gate is on its way.
