The government couldn't control the right-wing Freikorps and so they were going to disband them.

5000 armed Freikorps men took over Berlin. The army would not fight the veterans. The Freikorps put forward a nationalist politician, Kapp, as leader of their new government and invited the Kaiser back from his exile.

The Weimar politicians fled to Stuttgart. They urged the largely socialist body of workers to go on strike, so that Berlin ground to a halt. 4 days later, Kapp realised he couldn't govern, so he fled but was arrested and later died. The Weimar politicians returned.
