The leaders of the Allies chose the peace terms. German representatives were not allowed to join discussions, meaning that the Treaty was a 'diktat'. Any concessions were refused. Peace was popular with the suffering German people, but the terms were not popular.

Terms of the Treaty:
- Germany were to blame for the war
- Germany had to pay £6.6 billion in reparations
- Germany lost all its colonies
- The army was limited to 100000 men with no heavy artillery
- The army could only be used inside Germany
- The navy was limited and most destroyed
- The whole air force was destroyed
- Allied forces were stationed in the Rhineland and German soldiers couldn't enter it
- Germany lost 13% of its European land to the allies, some by force and some by plebiscites
- East Prussia was cut off from the rest of Germany
- Germany lost 50% of its iron and 15% of its coal

Impact of the Treaty:
- economy damaged
- Weimar leaders were resented and called the 'November Criminas'
- Germany humiliated and weakened
