Positives of the Treaty of Washington:
- recognition of each other and Israeli-Egyptian peace, including trade
- Israel would withdraw from the Sinai
- it marked a turning point
- Sadat insisted on Palestinian self-rule

Negatives of the Treaty of Washington:
- Israel would now focus on Lebanon
- Palestinians were not consulted
- Yasser Arafat rejected it
- the Arab world protested against it, and some leaders joined a conference of opponents to it
- Egypt was expelled from the Arab League
