Sadat had said that he would even go the Knesset in Jerusalem to achieve peace, and he was invited there by the Israeli PM, Begin.

Begin wanted peace so the IDF could fight the PLO in Lebanon.

Sadat said it was worth being seen as a traitor for the sake of peace for the Palestinians. Earlier that year, he had continued Kissinger's peace talks amid food riots in Egypt.

Sadat invited Begin to Egypt, but ultimately they disagreed on Palestinian rights.
