They were a small group of extremist white supremacist terrorists. These people did not agree with the civil and political rights for African Americans. They felt that the black population shouldn’t have the right to vote, so they would use violence to intimidate them to not vote. Another group similar to the KKK was a group called the Redeemers. These two groups would go on and help the Southern Democrats to recapture many state governments in the South.
