This is a landmark civil rights case that was passed in July of 1964, which outlawed discrimination “based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.” It also made laws like the Jim Crow laws illegal and made it so that the ability to vote should be equally available to all people. It was also a big step for women because they should have gotten equal treatment in public places and in work, but often that didn't happen. This first was met with little implementation, but over the years the enforcement of it got better. It was originally created by JFK, but it didn’t pass in the Senate until President Johnson passed it in 1964. As women got tired of little law passage or little implementation, they created NOW, which worked to give women the rights that they deserved.
