President Grant realised that policies towards the Indians weren't working in reducing conflict and the Indians were struggling to survive on the reservations.

Terms:
-The army protected the reservations from whites.
-The army could attack any Indian who wouldn't stay on the reservation.
-Corrupt Indian Agents were replaced with Christian men.

Impact:
-The government encouraged the Indians to live like white Americans.
