Already Dual Alliance b/w G and A-H but Italy wanted to join b/c feared exclusion from N.African colonies; Secret/defensive treaty of 3 years; promised aid if I or G attacked by F or it A or G attacked by 2 powers; Oct 1883 - Romania joined (League of Peace) [ by making england an associate of the Triple alliance (the mediter. agreement) promised to be a deterrent to both F and R adventurism (k 113)].
