One of the biggest milestones of the Civil Rights Movement took place on August 28, 1963. This event became known as the March on Washington, a huge protest at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. This protest consisted of about 250,000 people. An estimated 75% - 80% were African American. Organized by A. Phillip Randolph, the rally was kept peaceful which helped show the pacifistic nature of civil rights activists such as Martin Luther King Jr.

Although there were many celebrities appearing at the protest, the March on Washington wouldn't be so memorable if it weren't for the final speech delivered by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commonly known as the "I Have a Dream Speech", these 16 minutes of powerful words inspired thousands of African Americans throughout the country. To this day it remains one of the greatest and most well known speeches in American history.
