Mexico faced social oppression during the presidency Porfirio Díaz, a cruel leader who restructured the economic and political system purely for the benefit of himself and the handful of Mexican elite.

Through the production of mines, railroads, and other infrastructure, foreign investments and raise the wealth of the few elite business-owning individuals skyrocketed. He further alienated the poor and middle class citizens by seizing their land and selling these communal farming land land to these wealthy businessmen and foreign investors.
