The labourers of the Jamaican parish of St Thomas were agitated by the unjust treatment of a man from their area. Led by Paul Bogle, a Baptist church leader, the Jamaican authorities were attacked. The Jamaican Governor announced the Martial Law and Bogle was hung on 24 Oct. ~1000 Black Jamaicans were killed in the revolt.
