Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth and his wife were attack on September 8th, 1957 by an angry mob that was protesting against the tactics used by the Rev. and other activists such as Martin Luther King Jr. The Shuttlesworth weren’t afraid of anything and attempted to enroll their children in a white school and were attacked right away by the Klan. This event gained national attention and showed that Fred Shuttlesworth wouldn’t back down and wasn’t afraid of achieving equality even if he had to die for it.
