During an agitated time between African Americans and whites three men were traveling Philadelphia, Mississippi to help organize the civil rights movement on behalf of the Congress of Racial Equality. On June 21st, 1964 the three men were found dead in a dam and their deaths had all been tied to the white supremacists group in Mississippi. Mickey Schwerner and James Chaney were both white men working for the CORE group in Mississippi and Andrew Goodman was an African American college student working to achieving more civil rights for African Americans. Their deaths echoed around the nation because of them being tied with a civil rights activist group and that there were tons of mishaps that had occurred at the jail they were arrested at, showing the real motive of the white supremacist group involved in their murder.
