Martin Luther king was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama for protesting the treatment of African Americans. while imprisoned he was not allowed access to a lawyer or allowed to contact his wife. later president John F Kennedy's urged to intervene on the behalf of king. king was later bailed out of jail.
