after 600 federal troops were called into Alabama to contain the violence toward the freedom riders there was a meeting at first Baptist church. the meeting was lead by Martin Luther King Jr. during the meeting out side there was a mob ready for violence against the freedom rider supporters. the church was protected by the national guard but the mob was anxious for violence so they attacked the nation guard.
