emmett till was a 14 year old black boy from Chicago visiting some family in money Mississippi. august 24 he went in to the county store and bought some candy and while walking out he called back to the women behind the counter "bye baby". later the women claimed that he had cat-called her and grabbed her. the woman husband and brother on the night of august 28 they took emmett out of his house and made him carry a cotton gin fan all the way to the Tallahatchie River bank and then they beat him gouged out his eyes shot him and tied him to the fan with barbed wire and then through him in the river
