Sandra Day O'Connor becomes the first women to serve on the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court overturns state laws designating a husband "head and master" with unilateral control of property owned with his wife.

I think this is important because this opens the door for women to have control over some of the big debates and issues of the country which is monumental in U.S. history.
