This statement, issued by the government in London on the colonies, was mainly imposed to prevent the colonies from living and expanding further west than the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists were immediately frustrated by the proclamation, but they did not understand the motives of those who put it into effect. The native population was out of control, and after Pontiac's Rebellion, the British government was cautious. This proclamation was temporary, to prevent and resolve any disputes that the Indians and the settlers had, while they planned out a more permanent solution. The colonists, however, believed that their land was being taken away and they had lost their birth rights that they fought for in the Seven Years War.
