- Tianji:
* Important Chinese center for trade.

- April 1939:
* Japanese bank manager murdered

- June 1939:
* Japan made demands to handover the four Chinese suspects who stayed in the British Concession (to stay safe, if they are in the British Concession then they can't be hurt by Japanese)
* British Ambassador to China refused.
* In response Japan strip search British residents of the Concession as they go in and out to humiliate them.

- Outcome:
* Britain agreed not to undermine Japanese authority in occupied China.
* Britain refused to give up its control of the British concession to Japanese police.
* Britain handed over Chinese suspects and they were all executed.
