11 окт 1944 г. - Fred Korematsu v. United States of America

Описание:

Fred Korematsu was a civil rights hero in the 1940s. FDR signed an executive order on February 19, 1942 which was an influence due the bombing of Pearl Harbor by Japan. This order made Japanese Americans be sent to military internment camps due to them being an a threat of security during World War 2. In 1942, he had refused to go to the incarceration camps for Japanese Americans which set up by the United States government. After refusing to go inside the camp, he was arrested and then convicted of defying government orders. He then contested his case which then went all the way to the Supreme Court. He felt that these camps had violated the Fifth Amendment. The Untied States then won this case in 1944. They thought that is was necessary. However, in 1983 this ruling was overturned. The United States had new evidence that showed that the Japanese Americans that were sent into the camps were not a threat to security during the war.
