Henry Hudson set out on his first voyage. He set out on a voyage to find a northern passage to India. He set out with his 16 year-old son and crew on his ship, The Hopewell. They got blocked by ice, so they had to return. They talked about seeing many whales, so that led to whaling in Spitsbergen.
