This is a grocery store chain that was founded in 1916 in Memphis Tennessee. This was the world's first self service grocery store. During this time it was the first of its kind to open. It was different because it had shopping baskets, open selves, and no clerks to shop for the customers. Due to the Great Depression, the piggly wiggly became vulnerable. However the Piggly Wiggly is still in business and has more than 500 stores across 18 different states.
