Began to erode common law doctrine of overture by including provisions for the protection of separate property rights for deserted, separated, and divorced wives. However, it also introduced an adultery double standard: husbands could seek a divorce based on their wife's adultery alone, but wives needed to prove not only their husband's adultery, but also another offense such as bigamy, incest, bestiality, sodomy, desertion, cruelty, or rape.
