Eventually, in November 2022 the company OpenAI released the generative AI chatbot known as ChatGPT.

This marked the moment that AI entered mainstream use with AI-generated text, images, and code becoming available to the public and quickly integrated into work, education, and creative fields. Further development from companies such as Google, Meta, Midjourney, and Microsoft would signal a major shift in human-computer interaction and the role of automation in society as well as leading to a larger distrust of media unlike anything before.
