Major Event 1: The US presidential election of 2004 was the United States' 55th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. Republican Party candidate and incumbent President George W. Bush defeated Democratic Party candidate John Kerry, the then-junior U.S. Senator from Massachusetts.
Major Event 2: The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea megathrust earthquake that occurred on 26th December 2004, with an epicentre off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Caused by subduction, it triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along coasts bordering the Indian Ocean, inundating towns and cities with waves up to 30 meters (100 feet) high. Nearly 230,000 people in fourteen countries were killed and 1.7 million displaced.
Pop Culture: Napoleon dynamite first aired in theaters in 2004 and is still popular. Back in 2004, Napoleon Dynamite led to a resurgence in the popularity of tater tots, Britney Spears was the reigning pop princess, and Facebook.
Personal Event: Weeks before I was actually born, my mom got to choose my birthday, and it came down to March 31, or April 1st. Not wanting an April Fool’s baby she picked the 31st. Excited, happy, and nervous on March 31 my parents headed off to the hospital. They had waited for what seemed like forever until 2:56 pm when I finally arrived. Just a while later my grandparents and big brother came to visit and being such a generous brother, Ben had brought a happy meal to share with me. I was 6lbs 11oz, 20 ½ inches, and born at 2:56p.m.
