Dred Scott, slave, travelling to a place that prohibited slavery with his master and claimed this made him free. Most infamous Supreme Court decision in which the court decided that Scott wasn't a citizen so this didn't matter and he was still a slave. Meant that the expansion of slavery was legal everywhere and Black people had even fewer rights. Removed Northern policies
