The US, UK and France merged their zones of Germany into one area to coordinate recovery better. It was also to counter soviet growth and influence in the East. Trizonia angered the USSR and fueled the division of Germany into East and West Germany as two different states, furthermore intensifying cold war tensions in Europe.
